Privacy policy
Tech Mage (Pty) Ltd is responsible for the personal information ReliefCAM holds (details below). Write to hello@reliefcam.com about anything on this page.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address, name and password (the password stored only as a one-way hash), or your Google sign-in — to give you an account and write to you about it. Basis: our contract with you.
- The images you upload, your machine and tool profiles, your projects and your jobs — to generate your files, which is the service. Basis: our contract with you.
- Your credit history, and payment details from Paddle — what you bought, when, and the transaction number — to keep your balance and our records. Basis: our contract with you, and the law on financial records.
- Your IP address and technical logs — to keep the service secure and working, and to stop abuse. Basis: our legitimate interest.
- What the Generate step tells you: when a check stops a project, when we refuse to start a job and why, and when you ask how long a cut will take, with the project and the time. We use it only to find what stops people getting their G-code, so we can fix it. Basis: our legitimate interest.
- When you first open a finished job's files, and whether you came from our "your G-code is ready" email — to see whether that email helps people get their files. Basis: our legitimate interest.
- What you tell us about a carve — if you answer "Did your carve come out?", your answer, anything you write, and which job it is about, so support can help and we can fix what went wrong. Basis: our legitimate interest.
- Whether you want product news — to send it only if you asked. Basis: your consent, which you can withdraw in Settings.
- The country you are based in, if you tell us — optional, and "Prefer not to say" is always an answer. We use it only to count where our customers are; it is never shown to anyone else, and you can change it in Settings. Basis: your consent.
We never see or store your card details. Payment is handled entirely by Paddle.
We use a cookie to keep you signed in. Only if you agree, we also use Meta's advertising pixel
on reliefcam.com: it sets a cookie (_fbp) and tells Meta (Facebook) which of our pages you visit
and when you confirm a new account, so we can see which of our Facebook ads work. We do not give
Meta your email address, your name or anything else from your account. We ask the first time you
visit, and you can change your answer at any time with Cookie preferences at the foot of every
page. Basis: your consent.
We also count page views, for everyone and without cookies or any identifier, using Microsoft
Application Insights: the page (with any numbers in its address removed), whether you arrived from
another site, and the campaign tags (utm_…) in the address if there are any. Nothing is stored to
recognise you on a later visit. If you arrive through one of our campaign links, those tags are kept
in your browser until you close the tab, and saved with your account if you sign up, so we can see
which campaigns bring customers. Basis: our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is found and
used.
How long we keep it
- Generated files are deleted 90 days after the job.
- Job settings stored with each job are cleared 90 days after the job.
- Records of what the Generate step told you are deleted after 90 days.
- Records of when you opened a job's files are cleared after 90 days.
- Your answers to "Did your carve come out?" are kept until you delete the account.
- Your account and everything in it is kept until you delete the account. Deleting it from Settings removes your details, images, projects, files and credit history within 24 hours.
- An account whose email address is never confirmed is deleted, with everything in it, 30 days after sign-up. Nothing about it is kept.
- One thing survives deleting a confirmed account: a one-way hash of your email address, which cannot be turned back into the address. It is how we make sure the free sign-up credits are given once per address. It is not linked to anything else.
- Paddle keeps its own records of your purchases, as the law requires of it.
Who else handles it
We use these services to run ReliefCAM, each only for its purpose:
- Microsoft Azure (South Africa North region) — hosting, database, file storage, and the cookie-less page-view counts.
- Paddle — payments, tax and invoicing.
- Resend — sending email.
- Cloudflare — delivering the website.
- Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Meta (Facebook) — measuring our ads, only if you accept the advertising cookie.
Some of them process information outside South Africa; each is bound to protect it.
Your rights
Under POPIA and the GDPR you can:

- delete your account and its data — Settings, Delete account;
